I’ve recently added a new photo – Princess Irene Tulips – to my Beautifulflowerpictures.com website.

Tulips are one of my favorite spring flowers. The Princess Irene Tulips are some of the most beautiful ones I’ve photographed. I love all the colors in the flame pattern on the petals. Until I saw the Princess Irene Tulips – I’d never seen any tulips with this many colors in them. Princess Irene Tulips are early blooming triumph tulips, growing to about 14″ tall.

This photograph is available as either at 10 X 10″ or 20 X 20″ gallery-wrapped canvas. You can order Princess Irene Tulips from my website.

New Photo: Japanese Maple Leaves

I’ve recently added a new photo –  Japanese Maple Leaves – to my Beautifulflowerpictures.com website.

Taken the same morning as my Sweet Potato Vine Leaves photo, the leaves on this Japanese Maple Tree immediately caught my eye. The leaves were a wonderful combination of red and green. The leaves were still wet from a few days of rain – which gave them an almost purple tint. It was just a great combination of colors and shapes. I couldn’t resist photographing it!

This photograph is available as a 12 X 8″ gallery-wrapped canvas.  You can order Japanese Maple Leaves from my website.

Sunflower Center – November 2011 Photo of the Month

Center of a sunflowerSunflower Center © 2011 Patty Hankins

This is one of those photographs that I’ve been seeing in my imagination for a few years – and finally was able to create with my camera and share with you. I love sunflowers. Every summer Montgomery County plants at least one field of sunflowers at McKee Beshers Wildlife Management Area in Poolesville. I’ve photographed the flowers in the field several times, but I knew there were more photos waiting to be created there. I’m fascinated by the geometric patterns in the center of the sunflower, and how as the flower ages the center changes from the tight pattern to the circles of seeds that the birds love in the fall. I’d been wanting to create a photo with a tightly woven center, the beginnings of the seeds and the bright yellow petals. Finally this summer I found a sunflower in just the right light and in just the perfect stage of growth for the photo I’d been seeing in my mind. And so here it is – Sunflower Center. I hope you enjoy it.

New Photo: Sunflowers All in a Row

I’ve recently added a new photo –  Sunflowers All in a Row – to my Beautifulflowerpictures.com website.

As you probably know, the sunflower fields at McKee Beshers Wildlife Management Area in Poolesville, Maryland are one of my favorite summer photography spots. So often when I’m at McKee Beshers I feel like I’m standing in a field of sunflowers that goes on forever. With this photo, I tried to capture the feeling of endless sunflowers. I really liked the way the sunflowers recede into the distance adding a sense of depth to the photo. To say nothing of the fact that I just always want to smile when I see sunflowers – either in person or in a photograph. I hope these sunflowers brighten your day as much as they brighten up my day!

This photograph is available as either a 8X18″ or 14X30″ gallery-wrapped canvas.  You can orderSunflowers All in a Row from my website.

New Photo: Lotus Blossom IV

I’ve recently added a new photo – Lotus Blossom IV – to my Beautifulflowerpictures.com website.

This is the first of two new lotus blossom photographs I created this year after visiting Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens in Washington DC. I photograph the lotuses at Kenilworth at least a few times each summer. On every visit – I try to find a new angle to photograph the lotuses from – or to show something I haven’t shown before in my photos. What caught my eye with this blossom was how the pink petals were nestled in the curve of the lotus leaf. I also loved the way the sun was shining through the petals highlighting all the ribs and other details. You can see all of my Lotus Blossom photos in the Lotus Gallery on my website.

This photograph is available as either a 8 X 18″ or 14X30 gallery-wrapped canvas.  You can order Lotus Blossom IV from my website.

New Photo: Columbine & Lupine

Colorado Blue Columbine & Silvery LupineColumbine & Lupine (c) 2011 Patty Hankins

I’ve recently added a new photo –  Columbine & Lupine – to my Beautifulflowerpictures.com website.

Colorado Blue Columbine (Aquilegia caerulea) and Silvery Lupine (Lupinus argentus) quickly became favorite wildflowers of mine on my trip to Colorado last summer. Let’s face it – I love purple – so discovering new wildflowers in wonderful shades of purple was wonderful. Late one morning I was driving along one of the roads in the Gunnison National Forest and I spotted some a group of Columbines and Lupines growing right next to each other. So of course – I had to stop and set up  my tripod on the side of the road. I did get a few strange looks from people driving by – they couldn’t figure out why I stopped at that particular location – and pointed my camera where it was pointed (there were some beautiful trees just across the street). But I’m glad I did stop – I really like this combination of the Colorado Blue Columbine and Silverly Lupine. I hope you enjoy it as well.

This photograph is available as either a 12X15 or 20X26 ″ gallery-wrapped canvas.  You can order Columbine & Lupine from my website and I will have it available at shows.

Some Wonderful Pink Lilies

I’ve been working my way through some of my unedited photos (trust me – there are lots of those on my hard drive) and I came across several photographs of lilies that I’d never shared. I’m always amazed when I go back and look at some of my photos just how many varieties of some of the flowers I’ve photographed.

Here are some lilies in shades of pink. All of these lilies were photographed at Longwood Gardens.

Madame A Meilland Rose – January 2011 Photo of the Month

Madame A Meilland Hyrbid Peace Tea Rose

Madame A. Meilland Rose (c) 2010 Patty Hankins

I’ve photographed several peace roses over the years – but recently I’ve been wanting to offer a new peace rose photograph since the ones I had were several years old. So you imagine how pleased I was to see this amazing Madame A. Meilland Hybrid Peace Rose in full bloom last September. I love the way the petals are opening up – with the soft pinks around the edges – with all the shades of yellow in the center. The morning dew adds to the magic of the moment for me.
