On a recent trip to Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge, we found a really good place for lunch – Where Pigs Fly in Dover, Delaware. Their slogan is Unbelievable Ribs and Chicken – we tried both – and they were excellent.

I had the 1/4 BBQ Chicken with Memphis Fries and Baked Apples. Bill had the 1/2 Rack of Baby Back Ribs with Memphis Fries and Cole Slaw. The BBQ chicken was probably the best I’ve had outside of North Carolina. Bill’s ribs weren’t very smoky (the way he prefers them) but still tasty. A note for anyone who has gluten allergies – the Memphis Fries are double fried with a flour coating.

We were there just before Christmas – they have very impressive collection of pig ornaments and decorations. I think every ornament on their Christmas tree was a pig!

Where Pigs Fly is located at 617 E. Lockerman Street in Dover, Delaware. They open daily at 10:45 AM and close at 10 PM Sunday – Thursday, and at midnight on Friday and Saturday. You can check out their menu on their website.

Next time we’re at Bombay Hook, my guess is we’ll have a debate about where to eat lunch. Bill spotted another BBQ place he wants to try – and I’ll lobby to head back to Where Pigs Fly for more of their wonderful BBQ Chicken.
